Beyond Green

Don’t like the air? Grow your own. (#TED)

This week MIT Sloan Management Review is at the TED conference in Long Beach. You can follow all our TED coverage.

One of the most welcome additions to TED in recent years has been TED University, a series of shorter talks by TED attendees on the usual wide array of topics. This year the talks have ranged from wildlife forensics to how being in a cult changes the way your brain works, but many of them concerned one or another element of sustainability.

A TED University presentation that caught our attention was How to Grow Your Own Fresh Air, from Kamal Meattle of Greenspaces. Meattle talked about how his health problems led him to learn that choosing the right plants can make it much easier to develop a green building that generates its own fresh air. Greenspaces is developing a nearly two-million-square foot green building in India, a few miles outside of Delhi. It doesn’t exist yet; that’s why you see a drawing, not a photography. Meattle says construction will start this year.
