Beyond Green

California’s green legal battleground

It turns out not everyone is happy with California’s status as a leading green state.

The New York Times Green Inc. blog reports that the US Chamber of Commerce and National Automobile Dealers Association is trying to block the state from regulating its greenhouse gas emissions. The EPA gave the state a waiver to do so in June. The Times points out not everyone in the auto industry is behind the suit:

The court filing does not have the backing of the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, which represents all three of the major American automakers.

The report also suggested this may be a business opportunity for lawyers.

Frank O’Donnell, president of Clean Air Watch, said the court filing is “the leading edge of what may be a hurricane of lawsuits against attempts to deal with climate.”
