We have studied knowledge loss using organizational network analysis in several ways. Over the past several years, we performed ONAs at 80 organizations of different sizes and across different industries. After conducting each analysis, we also performed interviews to understand, among other objectives, the characteristics and implications of different roles in a network: central connector, broker and peripheral player. More recently, our post-ONA interviews have focused on the types of knowledge and the knowledge-loss risk associated with each of those three roles. We have conducted about 100 post-ONA interviews across 20 organizations that specifically addressed this issue.
