Relaxing the rules around physical presence in the office will improve employee productivity and firm performance. Agree “Enabling individuals to reduce ‘unproductive’ time spent commuting and allowing them more flexibility around when to conduct their work is likely to improve employee morale and productivity. On the other hand, everyone being able to choose when they come to work also lowers the chances of serendipitous connections and the building of trusted relationships that are key to sustaining long-term productivity. Relaxing rules around physical presence in the office on certain days while still requiring everyone’s presence on others may enable firms to make the most of providing employees greater flexibility.”
